Motivation VS. Discipline

HOW DO YOU STAY MOTIVATED?

This is a question I have been asked more times than I can count. This question has always been in reference to my health and fitness journey, but many of you may have been asked the same quesion in reference to whatever it is you are working on.

HOW DO YOU STAY SO MOTIVATED….

…. to run those races

…. to wake up early and workout

…. to grow your business

…. to get your degree

…. to save for the house

…. to get staright A's

Motivation is the feeling you get when you see other people reaching their goals and you feel inspired. It's the thoughts and feelings that make you want to make changes. Motivation is the planning of goals and visualization of you reaching it!

Motivation is exciting and FEELS GOOD!! It is always the first step!

Whatever it is that you are wanting to do, being motivated and staying motivated is the key to finding success. When we practice "staying motivated" we are constantly inviting that feeling to stay with us. Staying motivated means you have to do and find things that help keep that ENERGY alive.

For myself, I have found the best way to staying motivated is surrounding myself with people who are working towards the same things. Finding people who have already accomplished things you want to accomplish and learning from them. If you find yourself losing that motivation, that spark, that energy that made you want to do something different, just ask yourself….. WHAT BROUGHT THAT FEELING THE FIRST TIME? WHAT MADE ME WANT TO CHANGE IN THE FIRST PLACE? What was I doing, listening to , or watching when I first made the decision to do this thing?

You see..

Motivation FEELS GOOD.

It’s when you wake up before your alarm clark, walk with an extra pep in your step, and tackle your goals with ease. You carry through your day with an “I got this” attitude. You will be unstoppable and gain so much momentum during these days because everything is a little easier when you’re motivated to tackle “the hard”.

The more days that we can feel motivated, the better! (Join the 7DayKickstart to get tips to staying motivated)

We can do all of the things to keep us motivated, but in reality motivation comes and goes in waves.

There are days that you will feel inspired and days where you feel like you are barely getting through just going through the motions.

This is where the fine art and skill of “DISCIPLINE” comes in handy.

First, you have to understand that there will be waves of motivation and expect the valleys and low points.

Go into whatever it is you are working towards KNOWING it will not be easy and there will be challenges along the way.

The difference in motivation and discipline is the difference between success and failure.

Motivation will get you started, but your determination and level of self discipline is what creates consistency. (And we all know the #1 rule of achieving anything is consistency)

If you are crushing it.. daily and weekly, KEEP IT UP!

Remember , taking a day “off” to focus on rest and self care may be necessary to reset the body and mind. Give your body what it needs and jump back in asap.

When you create discipline, even on the hard days you will be able to get through your work because you know have to. It’s just part of your day now.

Here are a few tips you can use to stay disciplined:

  1. Book your classes and schedule all of your workouts for the week on Sunday and stick to it!!

  2. Meal Prep in advance! Spend Sundays cooking and preparing your meals for the week. This will help keep you from making poor choices when you are hungry or pressed for time.

  3. Pack your gym bag and necessities the night before (especially if it’s an early morning workout)

  4. Tell someone. Tell your gym friends that you’ll see them in class or let your family know that you’ll be doing “xyz” to help hold you accountable. When you put it out there, you are more likely going to show up!

  5. Getting there is the hardest part; however, what you do during your time is what matters! Disciplining yourself to make the time and get there is step 1.. but you need to be ready to give it everything you have when it’s showtime!
